The Christian Message of Satan’s Preacher Man

Buried underneath the surface of the overt blasphemy of “Satan’s Preacher Man” is hidden a strong Christian message. While many listeners may never delve that deeply into the mythology of this Blues Opera, it is worth the time and effort to study the true message found in the filth and profanity.
The story of “Satan’s Preacher Man” finds its origins in the mythology of the Blues, where Faustian pacts with the Devil at the CrossRoads is a common theme. The myth of Robert Johnson is where this Opera finds its beginning, but it is not the end of the story- not by a long shot. Only after the Bluesman’s death can the true story be told, a story as old as Christianity itself, the Book of Revelation. Christians for nearly two thousand years have sought the answers to two questions- When and Where. This Opera hypotheses two possible answers- 1938 and the Mississippi Delta. By combining the prophecies of John the Revelator and the myth of Robert Johnson, I believe I tell one hell of a Morality Play.
Because “Satan’s Preacher Man” is told almost exclusively from the Devil’s point of view, many Christian listeners will be turned off and possibly offended by the overt blasphemy, but as Orson Welles once observed, “Murder cannot be played in small words.” And evil characters must be allowed to express their blasphemy, while the Christian characters hold strong to their Christian beliefs while their souls are tempted continuously by the Devil and his minions.
I ask all Christians to join me in walking through the valley of the shadow of death, wading with me through the filth, profanity, and blasphemy, then in the end you will see Jesus standing triumphant on Mt. Zion and the Devil chained for a thousand years JUST AS John the Revelator prophesied.

Please read the following Biblical passages to illustrate the strong Christian message found in “Satan’s Preacher Man.”
1 Thess. 4:16-17: In “Rapture Givin’ Me The Blues” Reverend Skinner and his congregation, after hearing the trumpet of God, vanish before the eyes of Satan’s Preacher Man and then meet the Lord in the air.
Rev. 6:1-17 In “Jesus Done Broke The Seals” Jesus enters a juke-joint and opens the seals of six whiskey bottles unleashing war, strife, famine, pestilence, martyrs, and Great Signs.
Rev. 8:1-13 Jesus opens the seventh seal and there is silence... In “I Am Satan’s Preacher Man”, Satan tells of the seven angels and their seven trumpets.
Rev. 13: 1-18 Satan’s Preacher Man is the Beast from the Sea who opens his mouth in blasphemy against God and will make war with the saints, and will overcome them and all that dwell in the Delta shall worship him. Poor Bob is the Beast from the Earth who returns from the dead to give life unto the image of the Beast from the Sea, who has been lynched and given all who hear his music the number 666.
Rev. 14: 1-5 Rev. Skinner returns from Heaven a Seraphim and stands beside Christ and his 144,000 on the pastures of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Rev. 17:1-18 The character of the Prostitute is the Whore of Babylon, prophecied in these verses where she will make fornication with the Preachers of the Delta and she will be drunk on the blood of the saints.
Rev. 19:1-21 After the guitar duel between Poor Bob and Rev. Skinner, there is a marriage supper of the Lamb with a choir of Angels and a remembrance.
Rev. 21:1-27 Satan is loosed from the chain-gang and fulfills his contract with Satan’s Preacher Man by claiming his soul and they are cast into the lake of fire.
